Tips for a successful festival
Dress comfortably, put on some sunscreen, perhaps wear a hat to protect yourself from the sun. Remember to put a sunblock lotion of SPF 15 or more on your kids.
Wear shoes you feel comfortable strolling in. The festival covers several city blocks (four walking miles), so you’ll be doing lots of walking.
Consider backpacking children. Strollers take up more space and are difficult to navigate through crowds. There will be an estimated 390,000 people at this two day event.
Bring along cash for food and beverages. None of the food and beverage vendors accept credit cards. However, many of the artisans will accept credit cards. ATMs are located at the Washington Mutual Bank, Wells Fargo, and Union Bank, all on Paseo Padre Parkway. (note: most banks now charge an ATM fee for non-customers)
Don’t fill up on food at the first food booth you see. Stroll around a bit to get a flavor of the offerings, then sample several of the dishes that appeal to you.
Consider using public transportation. Fremont BART is one block away from the festival. Coming from the Central Valley? Use the Amtrak Capitol Corridor train!
Free parking is available on side streets surrounding the festival. Preferential parking is available to Wine Garden ticket holders. Private lots may charge a fee.
Keep your young kids within site at all times, but have a meeting place just in case. A good idea for a meeting place is the Fire Department fire engine at Paseo and Walnut. Also, get to know where the information booths are.
SCAM ALERT! Do not give money to people who roam around the festival, claiming to be with a charitable organization. The Fremont Chamber of Commerce does not authorize any person or organization to solicit donations or hand out flyers on the street during the Festival of the Arts. Local non-profit organizations who sign up through the Chamber of Commerce will be staffing the food booths at the Festival. Support your local non-profit by buying food at Festival food booths.
DO NOT bring in outside alcohol to the Fremont Festival. The Fremont Police will cite any one seen drinking from a paper bag, or beer bottle. Only current 2007 Festival wine glasses and Festival beer glasses are allowed for the consumption of alcohol. DO NOT bring in a previous year's wine or beer glass. It will not be filled. DO NOT bring your own wine or beer glass for filling.
There is ZERO TOLERANCE for underage drinking and excessive drinking. The Fremont Police, as well as Festival Management will be vigilant in this regard.
Be kind to your pet companions (ie. dogs), and leave them in the comforts of their own home. PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT THE FESTIVAL.
